Over 100 Years Of Ministry
In 2007, Lexington Baptist celebrated 114 years of ministry in Lexington. During all these years of ministry, the church’s membership size and buildings have changed, but the mission of the church has not changed—to share the Good News of the abundant life found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Beginning In 1893
The first house of worship was a small, one-room, wooden building located approximately 500 feet east and across the street from the present chapel. Ten members constituted Lexington Baptist at the first service held in this building on May 21, 1893. |

The Basis of Our Present Complex
The first building, the Chapel, was dedicated on June 26, 1926, when church membership was at 179 people.

The First Education Building was constructed in 1955. It led the way for a one of the most important ministries of LBC – teaching children of God's Love. |

The Second Education Building was constructed and a third floor was added to the first education building in 1972. Our Present Children’s Education Building is comprised of these two buildings. Membership in 1972 was 748. |

Disaster Followed By Glory and Honor
A tornado in August of 1994 tore through downtown Lexington, damaging the chapel, the old family life center, and the under-construction Worship Center. However, the ministry of LBC continued as we met at Lexington High for Sunday services and repaired the damage. In January of 1996, the new Worship Center was dedicated. The church membership at that time numbered 1,950. |

Building Together In Faith...
As of March 2006, the Lexington Baptist Caring Family of Faith membership stands at approximately 2,400. In November of 2005, the Building Together in Faith That Others May Believe building and stewardship campaign began. The first phase of this multi-phase project has been completed and the new Family Life Center located at 111 Efird Street was dedicated on Sunday, January 8, 2006.
Phase 2 Construction began in 2006 with the demolition of the old Family Life Center. In its place, a new, state of the art Children’s Ministries Building is being constructed. For more about the Building Together in Faith Campaign and construction progress photos, CLICK HERE. |
Looking back at the many years of ministry at LBC, it is apparent that God has truly blessed us as we have grown. We pray for His continued blessing as we constantly seek His will for the future of our church. |
