PORTLAND CHURCH PLANT

The Mission

The Lott Family

Kevin and Jenn Lott, along with their four children, are working through the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as church planters in Portland, Oregon. Portland has been named what is called a "Send City" by the NAMB, meaning they are one of the largest unreached cities in North America. Kevin and Jen plan to arrive in Portland in July 2017, and LBC is partnering with them as their sending church. We have made a financial commitment to them, but more that that, we have made a hand-in-hand commitment. We will send teams to Portland to work with Kevin and Jenn, we will pray for them and the people of Portland and we will help them do what is necessary to plant a church in a difficult part of the United States.

"Over the past several years, God has grown a passion in our family to take the gospel to the Pacific Northwest. The broad vision is that we might be a catalyst for the gospel to powerfully go forward into a spiritually dark place. Specifically we believe that God is calling our family to take the gospel to Portland, Oregon through church planting."

Why Portland, Oregon?

Portland, Oregon is much like a foreign country in the U.S. The language and the culture are different. The people of Portland are searching, and, as yet, they don't know what they are searching for; we know they are searching for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Those seeking a different lifestyle flock to Portland because it is a city that accepts all, no matter their lifestyle choices. Often the mindset is that if they can make the best food possible, if they can express their lifestyle with complete freedom, if they can market the best products possible, they will be able to find personal contentment, inner peace and purpose. Portland is a city of spiritual people who seek to fulfill the longing of their heart with things other than Jesus. They are open to listen to the gospel, but many feel they are fine with seeking alternative spiritual outlets. The vast majority of residents of Portland are what is called "nons," meaning they have no religious affiliation. The fastest growing religion in Portland is Buddhism.
