HURRICANE RESPONSE

RELIEF EFFORTS FOR HURRICANES HARVEY AND IRMA

Please be in prayer for the many people whose lives are being impacted by these storms. Per the SC Baptist Convention, Texas authorities have requested that all volunteer organizations tell donors that they do not have warehouse space to receive donated goods or water, and ask that you donate financially or by sending gift cards through the organization of your choice.

The geographical area affected by Hurricane Harvey is larger than the area affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, so this will be a large, ongoing effort.

How to Give

Through the SC Baptist Convention

To give financially to the disaster relief effort, you can give online to the Disaster Relief Office of the SC Baptist Convention. Choose in the drop-down menu if you'd like to donate to Irma or Harvey relief efforts.

Checks can be sent to the South Carolina Baptist Convention (note on the check "Hurricane Harvey or Irma") and mail to:

South Carolina Baptist Convention
PO Box 212999
Columbia, SC  29221-2999

100% of these donations earmarked for Hurricane Harvey & Hurricane Irma go directly to the disaster response for the storm.

Gift Cards (Visa, MasterCard) allow survivors the dignity of choosing their own products/brands rather than taking what has been chosen by someone else. Cards can be sent to the SCBC Disaster Relief office, and they will get them to our Texas counterparts to distribute.

Through the American Red Cross

Hands-on Help

In order to work with one of the official disaster relief units of the SCBC, you must have disaster relief training.  The next Disaster Relief training will be held at White Oak Conference Center, October 13—14 at a cost of $50 per person. Click here for more information.

LBC Relief Efforts

LBC will be monitoring the situation, looking for opportunities to assist in relief efforts. Once general non-disaster-trained volunteers are allowed into the impacted areas, we will determine a course of action. Relief work will continue for some time, and we will keep you updated as events unfold.
